Philips Hue - the perfect smart home lighting for your home!
On this page we show you how we use the Philips Hue smart home lamps for the lighting in our smart house. Also with handy tips and explanation!
In our living room we use the smart home lamps and lighting from Philips Hue. We started with a Hue Starterkit (set of White and Color Ambiance lamps and a bridge). But soon we were on all lamps, including an LED light strip and various accessories such as a Hue dimmer.
Philips Hue lamps are fantastic lamps, you can set any color you want with this. The ease with which you can do this in the Hue app is also particularly good. What's also great is that we can link the Philips Hue lamps to the Ambilight of our Philips TV. By placing the LED light strip to the left and right of the TV and behind the TV cabinet you get a great light spectacle! In other words, Philips Hue is the ideal smart home lighting for your home!

Here are some examples of how we control our Philips Hue lighting:
Control your Philips Hue lighting
The Philips Hue lighting is controlled from the Philips Hue bridge. Connecting and setting up the lamps is done in the Philips Hue app. In the Philips Hue app you can also use handy extra options, such as Hue lighting on at set times or at sunset, but also Hue lights automatically on when you get home.
Hue lights on automatically at sunset
In the living room we have set it up so that the Philips Hue lights come on automatically at sunset. You can easily set this in the Philips Hue app by creating a routine.
Do you want to know how to set the Hue lights to go on at sunset in the Philips Hue app?
If the "Automatic on at sunset" routine you set starts too early, you can set the lighting to go on an X number of minutes before sunset. This is a handy option, with which you sometimes get stuck in the twilight.

Hue lighting automatically on when coming home
You can also set the Philips Hue app so that, based on your home location, the Philips Hue lights turn on automatically when you come home and the lights turn off automatically when you leave, provided it is after sunset.
That we are fans of the Philips Hue lighting is a fact given that we have the entire ground floor equipped with Philips Hue lighting.
The Hue lighting creates beautiful lighting and can be adjusted to any color with the Hue color lamps. From normal warm light to a special own color preference. The Hue app is simple and works very intuitively. The extra options in the app, such as Hue Labs, also make the app a great addition. As far as we are concerned, the Philips Hue lighting is highly recommended!

Dimmer Switch: Hue lighting can also be operated manually
We can also operate the Hue lighting manually. We use the Philips Hue dimmer switch for this. The nice thing about this dimmer switch is that you can use the On button to choose multiple light scenes. You do this by pressing the On button several times.
Do you want to know how to add a Philips Hue dimmer switch and set up the light scenes in the Philips Hue app?
We think the Philips Hue Dim Switch is a nice addition to our Hue lighting. We often use this remote control from the couch to quickly switch to a different light scene or to dim the lights without having to grab your cell phone. The remote control is compact, fits well in the hand and controls the lights well and quickly.

Motion sensor: Hue lighting automatically on when motion is detected
At our house, the Hue lighting in the living room is switched on automatically at sunset. But sometimes it is a bit too dark during the day or there is too little light due to clouds or twilight and you actually want the Hue lighting to switch on and off automatically when the weather isn't light enough. This is possible with the Hue motion sensor. You can also use the Hue motion sensor if you go down at night and that the Hue lighting switches on automatically but then dimmed.

Hue Labs: extra evening time window for your motion sensor
We had a couple of times in the evening watching TV that the Hue lights went out in the living room because the motion sensor had not detected any movement. Only at those moments do you actually not want the lights to go out. Fortunately there is a solution!
In the Hue app you can use an additional Hue Labs option. Although this is a kind of test environment, you can use extra applications here to, for example, design your motion sensor even smarter.
For example, with the Hue Labs you can create a formula (formula in the app) with which you can set an extra evening time window in addition to the standard day and night time slot. You can set this extra time window in such a way that the motion sensor does nothing even in the evening hours, even if no movement is detected.
You can find this formula in Hue Labs under the name "Three times is a charm".
Do you want to know how to set up an additional evening time window in Hue Labs in addition to the standard day and night time window?
Our Philips Hue lights turn on automatically at sunset. Only if it is a bit dark or bit of twilight during the day, you would like the Philips Hue lamps to switch on automatically. And that is possible with this motion sensor from Philips Hue. We think this is a nice extension to our Philips Hue lighting that we are very happy with.

Create zones in the Philips Hue app
New to the Philips Hue app is that you can now also create zones. This allows you to operate the lamps in one physical room or room of your home, such as 'downstairs'. For example, you can switch on or off all lamps in both the hall and the living room from one zone. A handy option that we also use!
